Logistics

PaLS Logistics service provides a stock service to all HSC Trusts throughout Northern Ireland

Over 1.4 million transactions are handled by our Logistics Service on behalf of  Health and Social Care each year at an approximate value of £43 million. Our primary goal is to provide a cost effective, efficient, customer focused service supplying almost 4000 products from our warehouse direct to wards and departments at HSC facilities across Northern Ireland.

To make sure we achieve these goals our performance against target  is measured by our customers through regular quarterly meetings and governed formal written Service Level Agreements.

A key element in our strategy for providing Procurement and Logistics services is to maximize the use of our Distribution Centres for stock purchasing, warehousing and distribution. the largest of our Distribution Centres is situated at Boucher Crescent, Belfast. The Distribution Centres operate a computerised warehouse management system, which facilitates the control of stock items from time of receipt to time of dispatch to its customer base as well as managing the space available in our Distribution Centres.

Our stock management system ensures appropriate inventory levels and our stocks are stored in optimum environmental conditions to ensure minimum deterioration and are rotated systematically to prevent obsolescence. The receipt of requests from HSC organisations (100% of which are received electronically) generates picking and marshalling activities, and orders are packed for dispatch.

Our two Distribution Centres are based at:

Benefits our Distribution Centres offer:

The service level achieved by our Distribution Centres of products is over 97.5%. This means that for every 100 items requested the warehouse can deliver as a minimum 97.5 items first time to its customers. Stock-outs are rare and risks of continuity of supply to HSC organisations are greatly reduced.

Reliability of delivery and standardisation of product throughout Northern Ireland. Because we supply all HSC organisations we are able to work with those organisations to reduce the variety of products in use, this helps us maintain competitive prices for HSC organisations and reduces risks to patients from unfamiliarity of products in use by HSC staff.

The HSC staff that use products from our warehouse are involved in selecting the products as appropriate to meet their needs before we put them on our shelves.

All products are transparently priced to assist individual Trust managers to manage their budgets.
